Study Task 11- Writing a Project Rationale

Outline the problem and justify why a project should take place

Considerations:

  • Purpose/ reason for the campaign
  • Audience
  • Message
  • Tone of voice
  • Format
  • Materials
  • Budget
  • Placement/distribution
  • Must do's and do not's
  • Time frame
What is the purpose for the campaign?
The purpose will be to inspire young creatives and people interested in typography, informing them of current artists that are doing interesting work. Showing people that sign painting is a skilled art and making people appreciate it more. For people to get more aware that there are talented sign writers near them and potentially get in touch with them.

Who is the audience?
Creatives

Whats the message?
The message is that hand rendered type and sign writing is a real talent

Whats the tone of voice for the campaign?
Informal

What will be the format?
Web based, leaflets, billboards, social networking sites, magazine adverts

What materials will you use?
internet, paper, ink

Whats your budget?
Low cost

Where will you place and distribute your campaign?
Across the UK, shop window posters, newspapers, magazines, billboards, direct mail

What are the do's and do nots?
DO's
Do use helvetica bold nue for every heading with shadow effect
Do use helvetica as body copy
Do use variations of helvetica
Do use bright colours (blue,orange,red,yellow,green)
Do have white backgrounds for everything
Do use photographs

DO NOT's
Do not include illustrations
Do not use any other font other than helvetica

What time frame will you work with in?
2 weeks to create all printed material, but two months to promote

The  problem to why I am going to start this campaign is because currently there isn't anything for young creatives to be inspired by sign writing. Sign writing is becoming a dying art and is a real talent so the campaign will give a fresh approach to sign writing and hand rendered type to hopefully inspire creatives. The requirements of this campaign is to make sign writing seen again, for people to appreciate it more and maybe learn more about the talent and try it out for themselves.

To solve this problem I am thinking of holding an event/exhibition for creatives, I will hold this outdoors so larger pieces of sign wiring on vehicles can be exhibited. I would like creatives to come and browse the art, ask questions, purchase art and maybe try out some sign writing themselves.

I will advertise this through various printed media possibly including, newspaper adverts, shop window posters, bill boards and mail. On all printed media there will be the website and because  am trying to aim my campaign at the younger creatives I will be using various social media to spread the message.

The only font used should be Helvetica but in a few variations, anything other than italic. The heading should be in Helvetica Neu Bold and always have a drop shadow effect. Backgrounds should always be white, unless printed on coloured paper. Colours to be used other than black should be blue, orange, red, yellow and green. Printed material should be type based only, web material should use heavy imagery in the form of photographs, no illustrations to be used.

I will have a time frame of two weeks to create and print all printed material, but two months to promote the event and get people interested with the use of social media, web and print based material.
