Responsive- Cushion Final Designs

Here are my final designs, I could only choose 4 to upload, after asking a few people for their opinions I chose the bottom two, the leaf one and the square one, as these are the ones with the most colour and texture on.

My work submitted on oh deer ready for people to like, share, tweet and buy.

Evaluation

For this responsive brief I decided to do some cushion designs for the ‘ohh deer pillow fight’ competition. Ohh deer is an online brand that specialises in quirky illustrated gifts.  There was no theme for the designs, you could do whatever you felt like as long as you felt like it fits within the brand.

I started with project with some research, primary and secondary. For my primary research I looked at cushions that I already have in my bedroom, the cushions that I already have are ones that I purchased from Thailand in the summer, I brought them because of the bright colours and patterns. I also looked at paint and some watercolour patterns that I looked at in a previous project. There is a pink and green plant that I also have in my room, I looked at that for inspiration because of its detail and colour. I also took out a couple of books from the library on pattern and texture to gain some inspiration.

After researching I decided to try and generate some of my own patterns with paint. I have used a technique in the past with cling-film and paint and making prints and textures with that so I experimented with this. This was a lot more successful than I thought and I was happy with the way some of them scanned in.

Once I had made all of my textures and bright colours I then wanted to add some sort of illustration. I wanted this to be a simple design so the colours would be bright. I experimented a lot in Photoshop to get some designs I was happy with.
I then had five designs when I could only upload four so I asked for some feedback off my peers to help me decide which ones to upload.

Overall I am happy with my final outcome for this responsive brief,  and managed to get 28 likes on my cushions called ‘paint wave’ once I had uploaded they extended the deadline to the 1st of December to allow time more submissions and for people to purchase your work. I do regret not starting this project earlier, if I had started this project earlier and had more time I definitely would of worked on my illustration more and made a pattern a lot more detailed and intricate.
